QuickBooks on the Mac has been available in Australia since 13 April 2011 via QuickBooks Online Premium Edition. Reckon Online has expanded it’s online editions to now include:
- QuickBooks Hosted – Standard (the previous edition of QuickBooks Online – only available to PC users).
- QuickBooks Hosted – Premium (works on both PC and Mac).
- CashBook Online (PC and Mac).
We have recently tested the Mac version of QuickBooks online (ie QuickBooks Hosted Premium edition) and rolled it out to our first client. Now our client can ditch his Windows PC as QuickBooks was his last application he needed on his new Mac.
It is always best practice not to jump in quick with new software until the unforeseen problems (bugs) are ironed out with the reports back from the first users of the product. However, with QuickBooks already being online with its standard version now for at least a year now, the software and hosting is pretty solid.
With Reckon using a Citrix connector on the Premium edition, the online experience is likely to be even better due to the long-standing corporate-grade strength of Citrix software.
Overall, I am impressed with the rollout of redeveloped QuickBooks software in Australia over the last few years. Reckon seems to be heading in the right direction, very quickly and methodically (eg SBR with GovConnect). Many users will take up QuickBooks commencing with the 2011-12 release due to it’s availability on the Mac and mobile devices.
